Culotte

Paula Bianca Jacobs

One of the coolest pieces for this season is the Culotte (pronounced “koo-lot”).

Initially, I thought these slacks were a fat joke. An awkward length pants and to top it all off, its wide leg! Ugh, no. But you know what? After pairing these slacks with a good pair of ballet flats or strappy heels, I’ve fallen slowly but surely into the bliss of wearing them.

I’ve noticed that there are so many variations to the culotte – longer length; shorter length; and an endless amounts of fabric. I especially love the denim ones and the slacks-inspired ones, just like the pair I’m wearing.

About this outfit:

I usually never wear flat shoes in my look posts, but this one was a tad different. I’m loving these ballet flats, especially since I found them after searching for a pair for months. You know how these things work, right? You see something you like online (usually on Pinterest or Tumblr) and immediately search for it in stores, but unfortunately South Africa is a tad delayed on that so we will only receive the styles a few months later. I guess that’s where the beauty of online shopping comes into play.

I got these culottes and another tangerine pair from Woolies not too long ago for a bargain. They usually go for R550 each from the Studio W department, but I was able to score them for a total of R300 odd because of a random sale that Woolies was having. I was in store the other day and noticed that it’s back to its original price (meh).

Tell me what you think of the culotte pants? Have you purchased a pair?
